A Nod to Nocki
While I wait (not so patiently) for Tango to come into heat I would like to pay tribute to Tango's dam, Nockerl von Stutensee.
Nocki, her sister Nugget, and her mother Iblis were the Leos that started it all for me. In 2003 Waltraut brought her beautiful girls into the vet clinic where I worked and I was smitten. Their size was imposing but their manner was sweet and their eyes seemed to be glistening wells of intelligence and kindness. I questioned Waltraut thoroughly that day and made plans to visit her home. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a wonderful friendship with both Waltraut and her dogs.
From 2003 until 2012 I puppy and dog sat for Waltraut, my parents brought home their girls Ondra and Osea, I loved and lost my first Leo girl Mekka, my Sojourner came home with me, I mourned with Wal the passing of Iblis, Nugget, Myakka and Rox. I helped with litters O through U, went on dog trips with Waltraut to Denton, Dallas, Chicago and Estes Park. I worried through Waltraut's first bout with cancer, rejoiced in her remission, and struggled through her second diagnosis and passing. I brought home her girl Tango.
And through it all there was Nocki. She raised two litters of puppies and passed her wonderful temperament on to all ten. She gave comfort to both young and old through her work as a therapy dog. She loved and was loved while living first with Waltraut and Klaus and then with Liz and Mike. Every time I saw her she greeted me the same: with wild dancing and screams of joy followed by sitting on her haunches, placing both front paws in my hands and gazing lovingly up into my eyes.
The grand dame Nockerl von Stutensee passed away this last summer at the age of 10 1/2.

Nock and Mike were a wonderful team.
